Sachem Students, Staff Help Feed More Than 800 Families in Community Through Food Drive
The Sachem community has once again demonstrated why it is one of the most generous, compassionate, and service-driven districts on Long Island. Between Sachem East and Sachem North, students and staff combined to assemble more than 800 complete Thanksgiving meal boxes for local families—an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects the very best of Sachem’s spirit.
At Sachem North, the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive—one of the most cherished traditions of the year—reached remarkable new heights. Led by the senior leaders of the Student Government, affectionately known as the “Dirty Dozen,” this year’s campaign raised more than $5,000 to purchase turkeys for families in need. Students and staff packed over 200 full boxes of food, ensuring complete holiday meals for neighbors across the community. In addition, community members donated an estimated $16,000 worth of food, enough to support another 200–300 families this holiday season. The effort once again showcased the power of service, leadership, and unity that defines Sachem North.
Meanwhile, at Sachem East, the Student Government Club delivered an equally impressive effort, assembling 400 Thanksgiving meal boxes—each one hand-checked to confirm all 24 essential items were included. The club also coordinated the delivery of surplus donations to two community partners: the Town of Brookhaven and the Suffolk Independent Living Organization, extending support even further. Throughout November, Student Government members canvassed their neighborhoods and local supermarkets, with the Math, English, History, Business, Foreign Language, and National Honor Societies joining forces to assist families on the eastbound side of the district.
Together, Sachem East and North showcased a unified commitment to service, compassion, and community. More than 800 families will enjoy a complete Thanksgiving meal this year thanks to the dedication of students, staff, volunteers, and supporters across the district.
This is Sachem at its very best, a community that always rises to meet the moment.
