For three decades, Scott Dohrman has been a constant presence on the fields, courts and sidelines in Sachem, shaping the lives of generations of student-athletes through his dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to education and athletics.

Now, after 30 years of teaching and coaching, Dohrman is retiring, bringing to a close an extraordinary career that included 102 seasons of coaching across girls soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball and softball.

With the exception of seasons impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dohrman coached every athletic season throughout his career, a remarkable testament to his passion for working with students and his love of sports.

His final game came Wednesday afternoon as Sagamore Middle School's softball team took the field, marking the end of an era for one of Sachem's most respected educators and coaches.

Standing near the field during the first inning, Dohrman reflected on the journey that has defined much of his life.

"There's no place else I'd rather be and nothing else I'd rather be doing," he said. "It's been a true blessing."

His impact extends far beyond wins and losses. Former players often credit him for helping build confidence, teaching resilience and creating lasting memories that stayed with them long after they left Sagamore. Dohrman was a mentor, role model and trusted supporter whose influence will continue to be felt throughout the Sachem community for years to come.

Sachem athletic directors Gary Beutel and Phil Torregrossa presented Dohrman with a plaque during the game to commemorate his retirement.
